OK, so I could become addicted to Sudoku.

But I wish I knew how to go back to where I must have made a mistake!

Sudoku
The plumber came to call
I would like a new shower. I would like a new shower that does not involve putting the whole of the central heating system on just to get hot water for my shower in the morning. So I would like an electric shower.
I phoned a plumber to get an estimate and he said he'd have to come and have a look. It was a busy day so I said I would only be in for the next half hour. Thirty minutes later the doorbell rang and I answered it to find a man on the doorstep whom I invited in and told to go upstairs. Half way up the stairs he said, "You do know I'm the plumber, don't you?" I suppose I should have checked. I am not in the habit of inviting strange men upstairs - honest! He said he knew who I was because he'd seen my picture in the local paper last week. But he didn't ask for my autograph. Ah well.
Fun weekend
On Saturday I attended Fr Kevin Pearson's silver jubilee of his priesting at St Michael & All Saints in Edinburgh. It was a glorious occasion and everybody seemed to have a good time. I was honoured to be asked to deacon at the High Mass and as its only the second time I have done this, I surprised myself by managing to carry it all off with hardly any mistakes. My biggest worry was that I would pass out with heatstroke as I was wearing a new dalmatic which was very gold and very crispy and very hot. However, I fared better than Bishop Brian who has not been well recently and had to slip out during the mass to lie down on the Sacristy floor for a while before returning as if nothing had happened.
I managed to kneel in all the right places and on the right steps and thus avoided being kicked in the nether regions by genuflecting priests and clunked on the back of the head by enthusiastic thurifers. Speaking of which, Fr Kevin had borrowed my beloved thurible (aka Big Aggie) which came from the Catholic Apostolic Church in Glasgow, and had her professionally cleaned until she sparkled like new. She was a joy to behold.
The music was glorious and included some of my favourite hymns, and the choir surpassed themselves singing the Rachmaninov mass setting and two glorious anthems.
The day ended with a wonderful meal and a ceilidh where the great and the good hurled themselves around the floor in great heat while I watched from a smoky corner. My friend Shena broke her gorgeous little shoe and had to limp home on the train to Linlithgow with great fortitude and amidst much laughter.
Yesterday, we had my good friend Canon Alex Black preaching on the Feast of Ss Peter & Paul at both my churches and then we went to Beecraigs for a barbecue. My prayers were answered and the sun shone all afternoon. Bishop Douglas and his wife Pat joined in playing cricket with Jamie (age 6) and others. I suspect this will become an annual event.
Day off
What do most people do on a day off? (Btw, that's one day off a week - not two like most folk) Perhaps a little shopping, or sitting in the garden, or doing the garden, even. Perhaps a little light reading or catching up with friends for lunch?
What do I do on my day off? Tidy my study, gossip all morning about the church, set up a new blog, and then write a funeral service for a man I have never met and am never likely to now. What an exciting life I live!
Blogging again
This must be my third or fourth attempt at finding a blog that is simple enough to do myself. And not just that... it must be easy for folk to comment on it. This didnt happen often with the last one, but then I didnt tell many people about it so that could be the reason. So I'll keep this one short until I see if it has worked and what it looks like.
